Eating to nourish your body can help with your goal of reaching your optimal weight. With so many different weight loss plans and ‘diets’ available online and in the media it’s not surprising that people can be left feeling confused and bewildered. The truth is that there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer to losing weight and keeping it off. We work closely with clients to identify the reasons for their weight gain and find solutions that work for them. We guide you to compassionately tune into your body’s needs rather than rejecting them. We want you to feel good from the inside out! No matter where you are on your journey, you can transform your mind and body for long-lasting health through proper, tailored nutrition.

What is a weight management nutritionist?

A weight-loss nutritionist is trained to help you reach a healthy weight steadily and sustainably.

If you’re reading this page, you’ve likely tried several diets. Most diets can help you to shift a few pounds initially, but their restrictive (and occasionally bizarre) rules regarding food are rarely sustainable long-term. That’s why more than 80% of people who go on a diet end up regaining the weight they lost.

If you’ve experienced this, you know how it makes you feel like a failure. You think that the only solution is to go on another diet—and so the cycle continues.

A weight-loss nutritionist can help you to break this pattern. They know how to create a science-based, personalised approach that works for you, your body and your health.

How do nutritionists help clients with weight loss and gut health?

A nutritionist or Functional Medicine Practitioner considers your biochemistry and lifestyle to create an effective and healthy weight-loss strategy.

At the London Clinic of Nutrition, we know that the eat-less-food-and-exercise-more approach doesn’t work for everyone. This is because there are so many factors beyond food and exercise that influence weight management, such as:

  • Hormonal fluctuations. These can make it more difficult to lose weight, particularly around menopause.

  • Poor sleep. Lack of sleep causes further changes to hormones that drive appetite.

  • Stress. High levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, can lead to weight-loss resistance.

  • Chronic inflammation. Low-grade inflammation—particularly from poor gut health—is also linked to weight gain.

  • Toxicity. Toxins are stored in fat cells, so a high degree of toxicity can make your body reluctant to release excess weight.

As you can see, counting calories in food or clocking up minutes on the treadmill do nothing to address these underlying health issues.

This is where a nutritionist can help. Through a thorough client lifestyle assessment and appropriate testing, they can help you identify the root cause(s) of any weight issues. They create a plan to optimise your health—and excess weight falls off as a result.

Nutritionist or dietician for weight loss?

Both nutritionists and dieticians can help you to lose weight, but their approaches are likely to be different.

A dietitian is trained to work with specific dietary approaches and weight-loss techniques, which they then apply to the individual. The British Dietetics Association, for example, advocates enjoying a nutritional breakfast, eating more healthy foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and watching portion sizes.

A nutritionist or Functional Medicine Practitioner is trained to consider the individual first, and then create a weight-loss plan around them. Let’s say a nutritionist knows their client thrives on intermittent food fasting. Rather giving the standard advice to have a healthy breakfast, they would create a plan that maximises the power of intermittent fasting instead.

Both approaches are valid. The key is to work out which would work best for you and your health.

WEIGHT management

Oliver has helped me become more aware of how individual we all are and that everything has an affect on our bodies whether internal or external. This has led me to a happier place with my health and had a knock on effect in all other aspects of my life.

Since beginning my treatments which was a mixture of supplements, herbs and dietary information my body weight has adjusted to a natural constant state, my energy increased and stress levels gone down. My dysmenorrhea condition has greatly improved from out of control to confidently managed.

I can’t thank Oliver enough for helping me see the wood through the trees. "
