Health and Nutritional Tests in London and Hertfordshire

The London clinic of nutrition offers a huge range of functional health tests to help assess the causes of ill health. Some of the tests we use most regularly are as follows:

Immunology health tests

Gluten Sensitivity – non coeliac mediated gluten sensitivity – this test measures very sensitively whether  you have a sensitivity to gluten

Gluten-Associated Cross-Reactive Foods and Foods Sensitivity – this test measures foods that the body is reacting to as if they were gluten.  This test is useful for people who are not improving on a gluten free diet or have gut symptoms that do not improve with standard nutritional therapy

Intestinal permeability test – this blood test sensitively measures whether you have leaky gut and what causes it and then we are able to retest some 6 months later to ensure that the client is fully healed.

Food allergy panels – these can be useful when patients have true allergies to foods.

Nutritional health tests

Vitamin D – (blood) this will accurately measure the Vitamin D levels in your blood.  Please see our blog post for vitamin D information and its importance for health.

Essential fatty acids – This test measures the levels of red cell membrane fatty acids, imbalances of which greatly affect inflammatory and other conditions.  By understanding the fatty acid levels, we can re-establish an equilibrium using nutritional intervention.

Metabollic health tests

Comprehensive cardiovascular test– these tests measure the blood for independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease, revealing the biochemical environment associated with inflammation, lipid deposits, endothelial dysfunction and clotting factors underlying cardiovascular disease.

Insulin resistance profile – this test measures pre diabetes states and progression towards type II diabetes

Gastrointestinal health tests

Stool testing We employ a number of different stool tests to accurately measure gut dysfunction including inflammation, parasites, unwanted bacteria and candida.  One of the many benefits of these tests compared to NHS stool testing is that they measure your bugs in your gut against nutritional, herbal and conventional products and then advise by means of a graph what was the most successful in eradication.

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth – this test looks at the small intestine rather than the large intestine as in stool testing.  This test is used to measure unwanted bacteria in the small intestine and is carried out using a breath test.

Endocrine (hormones)

Adrenal Stress profile – Saliva hormone testing measures the amount of various hormones in your saliva.  It is the best single lab test available for detecting adrenal fatigue, exhaustion and reasons behind depression like symptoms. It is cost effective and is done at home and results come within a few days.

Female Hormones –    Hormone imbalances revealed in this hormone test profile can help illuminate root causes of disorders such as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), infertility, and menstrual irregularities. This hormonal test analyses 11 saliva samples of a 28-day period.  Hormonal balance is the key.  Research has long shown that fluctuating levels of estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone play a major role in a woman’s overall health affecting: menstrual cycle, mood swings, sleep patterns, appetite level, sex drive, anovulation, polycystic ovary disease to name but a few.

Thyroid Plus – Thyroid hormones are essential and primary regulators of the body’s metabolism. Imbalances can affect virtually every metabolic process in the body, exerting significant effects on mood and energy levels.  Thyroid imbalances may elicit fatigue, depression, coldness, constipation, poor skin, headaches, PMS, dysmenorrhea, fluid retention, weight gain, anxiety/panic attacks, decreased memory and concentration, muscle and joint pain, and low sex drive.

My session with Oliver Barnett was very interesting and informative and he told me how to build on my existing healthy diet, broadening what I ate and how I prepared it, and prescribed a course of herbs and a detox.
